CREATE
FACTS

A digital twin of (critical parts of) your supply chain is key.
Include restrictions…it is complex enough, keep it simple.

Simulate optimum. Logical flow time. Optimum for inventory. All based on statistics, target service levels, lead time variations… Challenge your organization. Once-upon-a-time anecdotes hinder improvement. „We tried, it did not work. If we do that, the world breaks down…“ Only facts matter.

BREAK
NARRATIVES

„High stock = high service level and robustness“:
False. High stock does not correlate with service level.

„We need safety buffers to coop with supply crises“:
False. Safety stocks are not the right tool to coop with strategic supply crises.

„We are so different“:
almost never true. Start with optimum and consider specific restrictions. Based on hard facts.

FIX
GOVER
NANCE

Over 95% of companies have problems in their supply chain because at least one of the following statements is true…
2 of 3 (80+%), 3 of 3 (50+%):

  1. „We lack consistency in decision making and parametrization.“
Example: cost of capital rates differ between investment decisions, replenishment system settings and procurement decisions.
  2. „We have conflicting targets.“
Example: Strategic procurement is driven by volume - even for „accounting profits“, operations tries to stay lean.
  3. „There is no end2end responsibility for our SC processes“.
1 and 2 remain. Continuous improvement happens in very small, mainly functional steps.

10-50%
inventory
reduction...

Results from more than 100 projects, independently on level of optimization:
Inventory reduced by 10% (quick wins) to 50%.
Significant cost down in operations due to simplification and optimal parametrization.
Stable or increased service level performance.
